The Aldgate Partnership

Local Employment

Local employment and skills development forms part of the continual growth and regeneration of the Aldgate area. Employment, skills and apprenticeships sit within the wider context of the economic development agenda.  By focusing efforts on these three things TAP is supporting the local area.

Apprenticeships

With the Government now looking to apprenticeships and a big growth sector for big and small companies, we are engaging in activities to see how, as a business community, we can support this agenda. If you are looking to hire an apprentice please contact zoe@thealdgatepartnership.co.uk and we can point you in the right direction to get the right candidate for you.

A good apprentice is only as good as the support he or she receives. Click here for a registered, vetted list of training providers.

TAP is organising Career Kickstarters to launch a young person into an apprenticeship career in Aldgate. These candidates are specially targeted are office based roles with digital skills. They learn on the job with special guidance from a full team of people from the apprenticeship provider. For more information on these and if you are an employer that would like to attend please contact zoe@thealdgatepartnership.co.uk.

Skills and Employment

The Mayor has consulted on his draft Skills for Londoners Strategy, which aims to:

  • Empower all Londoners to access the education and skills to participate in society and progress in education and in work;
  • Meet the needs of London’s economy and employers, now and in the future; and
  • Deliver a strategic city-wide technical skills and adult education offer.

TAP welcomes the actions set out in the strategy, particularly the introduction of the Good Work Standard to promote investment in skills, workforce development and inclusive employment practices; the call to devolve the Apprenticeship Levy to create a Skills Levy for London; and the development of an all-age careers information, advice and guidance offer.

The draft strategy is available here.

Tower Hamlets Education Business Partnership is a charity that helps local students organise work placements in businesses and across the borough. We find and organise over 3,000 work placements each year. It is their goal to end poverty of opportunity through education and through partnerships with businesses. They work with employers to help students build confidence and skills. They have just launched their 2018 calendar for Work Experience students. Please be in touch if your business would like to offer the opportunity of a work experience placement.
