About this deal

This metal detector runs on a fixed frequency of 6.5 kHz. It uses a slightly smaller coil (6.5″x9″) than the ACE 300 but the length is the same. The control panel box sits just below the padded grip. Because it doesn’t utilize a large LCD screen like some other metal detectors, Bounty Hunter was able to keep the control box very small. It has a low-profile design that’s sleek and lightweight. Durable textured plastic encases the important components, keeping the metal detector safe in even the roughest environments. Actually, the function isn’t an automatic one, it is pre-set in the device, which makes the ground balance the same for all soil types. Tone—with this search mode, users will have two audio tones to decipher between the metals. There will be a high audio pitch when something of high-conductivity is detected. When there is scrap metal that may not be of high importance during your treasure hunt, the low tone will sound. During this mode, the metal detector will adhere to the discrimination settings. If you have a nice pair of headphones already or just don’t want to buy a new pair, you can use a cheap pair of earbuds as long as you get an adapter like this one since most earbuds have a ⅛” connector.

There are three different types of calibration features that each metal detector may have, including preset, automatic or manual: Sometimes the makeup of the soil itself will make it hard for metal detectors to find the desired objects. Ground mineralization can react like a false positive and cause an issue when attempting to use the detector. In this case, we need ground balancing. Ground balance is the ability of the detector to ignore soil mineralization by things like iron or salt particles in the earth, but still detect the gold, silver, coins, and other treasures you want to find. This will allow you to get higher quality hits at much greater depths. One of the most useful features of this metal detector is the notch discrimination knob. When you’re looking for hidden treasures, you’re bound to come across a ton of junk metals. Everything from a soda pull tab to rusty old nails can trigger a detector. Unless you want to waste your time digging those junk metals out, a discrimination filter is a must-have. This is a VLF, or Very Low Frequency, metal detector. This technology is pretty common in metal detectors because it works well to find a range of different metals. It is rugged; therefore, it is an ideal detector for treasure hunting in almost any type of ground condition, including extreme ground conditions. These days, there’s no shortage of entry-level metal detectors on the market to scratch that prospecting itch. In general, we found that the rings were the hardest for the detectors to locate, which makes sense considering how small they are. Also, we noted that the Garrett – Ace 250 not only achieved the highest score here but that it was also the most intuitive. It clearly and accurately marked on its LCD screen the depth of each object that it located. All of the detectors that we tested had an adjustable discrimination feature, which we set according to their respective manuals. Perhaps unsurprisingly, the results of this test were very similar to the above general detection test. The Garrett – Ace 250 had the highest score, failing to find only one object. The Ground EFX – MC1 Youth had the lowest score, failing to find several objects and actually erroneously alerting us of one trash item.

Yes. Bounty Hunter provides a five-year warranty. And their customer service and is first-class if you ask me. Where is this made? Because this detector came with such an excellent range of options and features on the display, we were disappointed that it did not score more highly on some of our tests. In particular, this Treasure Cove struggled a bit on our depth and underwater test, so it might not be the greatest at finding metals that are several inches below the surface. How deep do most metal detectors go?

The search modes on this Bounty Hunter are not object-specific, so there are no Coin, Relic, or Jewelry modes. However, you do have All Metal Mode which has no discrimination as it will provide one audio tone when it detects any type of metal. This mode is especially helpful when you want maximum depth. The metal detector has automatic ground balance function that enables working on highly mineralized soils.

While the coil is waterproof and fully submersible, the control box and electrical components are not. So don’t go anywhere near water. Can I use it at the beach? While the Ground EFX does have the weight and length to match a child treasure-seeker, the functionality of this unit was poor, scoring last on four of our tests. In the general detection test, discrimination test and depth test this metal detector had the poorest performance, which suggests that it just cannot find those relics, coins, and gold with any consistency. The weight and usability make it great for the whole family and the price is unbelievable for the quality. We definitely recommend the Bounty Hunter IV to anyone who wants to try their hand at this great hobby and find some truly unique treasures. The Manufacturer’s Warranty involves sending repairs directly to the factory, abroad, with a repair period of up to 2 months

Summary

A high-end, heavy-duty metal detector for seasoned relic hunters. This precise metal detector can sense objects buried up to 18 inches underground. The Ground EFX – MC1 Youth metal detector is made specifically for children, so it’s shorter and lighter than the other detectors we tested, weighing only two pounds with an adjustable length between 26 and 36 inches. When you turn the sensitivity up, you can find smaller items that you might have overlooked when you searched on a weaker setting. The adjustment is great for scanning deeper into the earth. However, if you want to have an idea on what you are about to dig, here where reading your machine comes to place … Otherwise, you might be digging everything and anything! Which is not a fun thing to do, Right?
